Entity definition

Shading devices are purpose built devices to protect from the sunlight, from natural light, or screening them from view. Shading devices can form part of the facade or can be mounted inside the building, they can be fixed or operable.

NOTE  Also other building elements such as protruding slabs or balconies can act as shading devices. Those elements however have another primary purpose and are defined as IfcSlab or by other subtypes of IfcBuildingElement.

HISTORY  New entity in IFC4

Attribute definitions

9PredefinedTypeIfcShadingDeviceTypeEnum? Predefined generic type for a shading device that is specified in an enumeration. There may be a property set given specificly for the predefined types.
NOTE  The PredefinedType shall only be used, if no IfcShadingDeviceType is assigned, providing its own IfcShadingDeviceType.PredefinedType.
X
Formal Propositions
RuleDescription
CorrectPredefinedTypeEither the PredefinedType attribute is unset (e.g. because an IfcShadingDeviceType is associated), or the inherited attribute ObjectType shall be provided, if the PredefinedType is set to USERDEFINED.
CorrectTypeAssignedEither there is no shading device type object associated, i.e. the IsTypedBy inverse relationship is not provided, or the associated type object has to be of type IfcShadingDeviceType.

IFC4 CHANGE  New inverse relationship, change made with upward compatibility for file based exchange.
X
DeclaresIfcRelDefinesByObject

S[0:?]Link to the relationship object pointing to the reflected object(s) that receives the object definitions. The reflected object has to be part of an object occurrence decomposition. The associated IfcObject, or its subtypes, provides the specific information (as part of a type, or style, definition), that is common to all reflected instances of the declaring IfcObject, or its subtypes.
IFC4 CHANGE  New inverse relationship, change made with upward compatibility for file based exchange.
X
